How to Install HP Printer Drivers on Windows 10/11 & Mac

Your HP printer needs the correct driver to communicate with your computer. Whether you're setting up a new printer or updating an old driver, follow these steps.
Method 1: Using HP Smart App (Recommended)
- Open the Microsoft Store (Windows) or App Store (Mac)
- Search for "HP Smart"
- Download and install the app
- Open HP Smart → click Add Printer
- The app will automatically detect your HP printer and install the correct driver
- Follow the on-screen setup wizard
Method 2: Windows Built-in Driver
- Connect your HP printer via USB or make sure it's on the same WiFi
- Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners
- Click Add a printer or scanner
- Windows will search — select your HP printer when it appears
- Windows Update will automatically download the driver
Method 3: Device Manager (Update Existing Driver)
- Press Windows + X → select Device Manager
- Expand Print queues
- Right-click your HP printer → Update driver
- Select Search automatically for drivers
- Windows will find and install the latest driver
- Restart your computer
Method 4: Mac Installation
- Connect your HP printer via USB or WiFi
- Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners
- Click the + button to add a printer
- Select your HP printer from the list
- macOS will automatically download the HP driver from Apple's servers
- Click Add
If the Driver Won't Install
- • Uninstall the old driver first: Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall "HP Printer" related entries
- • Restart your computer
- • Disable antivirus temporarily during installation
- • Try a different USB port or cable
- • Run Windows Update to get the latest OS patches
